I did not lose myself all at once.

It happened the way most quiet things do, gradually, then completely. A career that no longer reflected who I was becoming, the seismic shift of becoming a mother and then the loss that rearranged everything. My sister died and with her went the version of me that had existed in relation to her.

Each of those moments brought with it the same question: who am I now?

For a long time, I didn't have an answer.

The gap nobody talks about

There is a particular kind of exhaustion that comes from showing up as a version of yourself that no longer feels like you.

It is not dramatic, it just sits there in the way you hesitate before walking into a room, in the outfit you reach for because it is safe, in the voice that gets a little smaller every time someone expects you to be certain.

I know that gap, I lived inside it for years. Eventually, I

realised that confidence, identity and style are not three separate problems. They are one.

You cannot dress your way out of misalignment, you cannot workshop your way to presence if you do not yet know who you are and the surface work does not stick unless the inner work has happened first.

What rebuilding confidence, identity and style actually looks like

My rebuild did not start with a wardrobe clear out or a confidence course. It started with a question I had been avoiding for years: who am I, right now, in this version of my life? Not who I had been or who I thought I should be but who I actually was.

That question is uncomfortable and most of us spend considerable energy not asking it. We update our outfits, our LinkedIn profiles, our morning routines and even our hair styles, anything to feel like we are moving forwards without having to look too carefully at where we actually are.

When I started to rebuild myself each time I found I moved in three directions. inwards first, then outwards and finally forwards.

Inwards: I looked at my values, my identity and my self perception. What was important to me now? Who had I actually become? Which stories and beliefs I held were actually true, which ones were borrowed and never mine anyway and which ones had simply expired. This is identity work: the deliberate act of understanding who you are in this chapter of your life.

Outwards: I looked at how I was presenting myself to the world; my style, my presence, the image I was projecting and I considered, honestly, whether it matched the woman I now knew myself to be. It did not.

Forwards: I aligned the two, my insides and my outsides. I didn't start dressing to impress or building a persona. I started deliberately and intentionally expressing, for the first time in years, who I actually was now, in this moment.

Why style is never just about clothes

Style is the most visible part of your identity. Before you speak in a room, your presence has already made a statement. The question is whether that statement is intentional and whether it is what you really want to communicate.

When I returned to work I was confronted with a wardrobe that had become a museum of old versions of me and my sister. Clothes from when I worked on a fashion buying floor in London, enjoying nights out in my twenties, clothes I had bought for the woman I aspired to be, clothes that belonged to my sister and clothes from when I had a newborn and a toddler but very little for the woman I actually was.

When I finally started to dress from the inside out, from identity rather than from expectation, not only did I look different but how I felt walking into a room changed too.

Confidence is compound, every small alignment builds on the last. An outfit that genuinely reflects who you are is not vanity, it is a daily act of self recognition and expression. This accumulate, secures your identity and builds confidence.

The women I work with now

I became a confidence, identity and style coach because I had lived the exact problem I now help women solve. I started just knowing I wanted to help women feel better about themselves. Gradually my mission became clearer.

The women who find me are not struggling because something is wrong with them. They are accomplished, intelligent and very capable. They have built careers, navigated life transitions and held things together for other people but somewhere along the way, through motherhood, loss, turning forty or fifty, a new life chapter or a promotion or career change, the gap opened up.

These women are not looking for a stylist. In fact, often they have already tried that. They are not looking for another confidence workshop. They are looking for someone who works on all of it, from the inside out, in a way that actually lasts.

That is what my SILK framework does. It begins with identity (who you are now, not who you were), it moves through style (how to express your identity with honesty and intention) and it addresses what needs to be released (the old versions of you, the expired stories, the clothes that belong to someone you have outgrown. Then it builds presence; the quiet, undeniable authority that comes from being fully aligned inside and out.

If you recognise yourself here

The gap you feel is not a flaw or a a sign that something has gone wrong. It is a sign that you have evolved. You have outgrown the version of yourself that you have been presenting to the world and your outside needs to catch up with your inside.

Rebuilding confidence, identity and style from scratch is not a dramatic overhaul and doesn't require a horrific 90s television style makeover. It is a precise, gentle and deliberate process where we look inwards first, then we move outwards, then accelerate forwards. If it is possible for me (and many others) it is possible for you too.

You know who you are, you just need help showing your fabulous self to the world.

That is exactly what I do.

If you are ready to close the gap, my signature Silk Transformation programme is built around you, from the inside out.
